I was thrilled when Kimberley and David asked me to shoot their Ashton Memorial Wedding photos. As a wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to shoot in some truly stunning venues across the UK. But few compare to the extravagant drama and romance of The Ashton Memorial in Lancaster.
Perched at the top of the hill in Williamson Park, Ashton Memorial is part architectural wonder, part historical love letter. Built in the early 1900s by Lord Ashton in memory of his late wife, the ‘folly’ is a monument to devotion. Which makes it the ideal setting for a wedding ceremony.
Black Tie Wedding
Kimberley and David met as students at Lancaster University. So it seemed incredibly fitting form them to tie the knot at this iconic landmark. They chose a black-tie theme for their wedding, with David and his groomsmen in matching suits and Kimberley’s bridesmaids also looking stunning in black. All their decorations matched with the monochrome colour scheme for a simple but elegant look to the whole day, in keeping with the grandeur of Ashton Memorial.

The interior of Ashton Memorial is nothing short of breathtaking and was a stunning place for Kim and Dave to say their vows. The marble floors, towering columns and height of the ceiling is truly impressive. Yet the space is intimate enough to feel personal.
There was so much raw emotion packed into David and Kimberley’s short wedding ceremony. There was laughter and many happy tears just before the happy couple were pronounced newly married. And in a setting like Ashton Memorial, it all felt extra cinematic.
Since Ashton Memorial stands within Williamson Park, we made the most of the outdoor space for relaxed and natural portraits. I also loved doing the confetti shot, as David and Kimberley’s son was very excited to get involved in the throwing!

Ashton Memorial is a Grade 1 listed building and stands at around 150 feet tall, dominating the skyline in Lancaster. The viewing gallery of the first floor provides amazing views of the Lancashire countryside as far as the fells and mountains. Ashton Memorial is is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies and there is a booking calendar available on the venue website. It’s located within Williamson Park, Williamson Rd, Lancaster, LA1 3QA.
