Sofya & Alex’s wedding at Plas Dinam Country House in Mid-Wales was stunningly beautiful and great fun to photograph! Their family and friends had travelled from all corners of the world for the occasion. As they hadn’t seen many of them for several months or even years, the wedding was a huge celebration for them all.
Sofya told me that she and Alex wanted to spend more than a fleeting, busy wedding day with their loved ones. They also wanted to make their closest people an important part of the celebration… “These two considerations were key when it came to the choice of venue, and when we found Plas Dinam, we couldn’t have been happier. The venue offered the privacy of a family home for the weekend and saved us from an out-of-the-box hotel wedding, leaving room for creativity to flourish,”
Plas Dinam also gave Sofya & Alex a blank canvas to work with in the form of the Old Stables. They decided to hold their wedding breakfast here after the ceremony in one of the beautiful rooms of the house. They used a huge backdrop of New York as centrepiece of the reception décor, as Alex and Sofya met in New York and the City had played a hugely important role in their relationship.
Over to Sofya: “One of the most important and treasured contributions were the flowers, which Alex’s Mum grew in her garden and put into arrangements with the help of a couple of friends and family members. My flower crown, all bouquets, buttonholes, table arrangements were made possible thanks to the hard work of our families and friends,”
Alex and Sofya also included plenty of personal touches throughout the day. Sofya walked down the aisle to Yeah Yeah Yeah’s acoustic Wedding Song, while BORNS’ Electric Love played for their exit down the aisle. The music playlists for the meal and the evening dancing were also DIY and streamed via Spotify.
During the wedding breakfast the couple invited all guests to do a speech, which made the celebration even more special and personal. Another cute touch I especially enjoyed was finishing each toast with cheers of “Gor’ko”. This is an old Russian tradition that prompts a kiss from the newlyweds to sweeten the bitter drinks.

Plas Dinam is an absolutely gorgeous venue in the Welsh countryside. One of the best things about this venue is that you can hire out the whole house. This means there’s loads of room for all your friends and family to stay with you all weekend to party! At Plas Dinam, wedding receptions are held in an old converted Victorian stables. Perfect if you want to do a DIY wedding with lots of style!
