Sefton Park Palm House Wedding Photos

I’ve been mega excited to share these Sefton Park Palm House wedding photos with you. I can’t believe it’s already been well over 6 months since I shot this wedding, time really does fly when you’re having fun!

When James and Pip first got in touch with me, I just knew their wedding would be right up my street… Stunning botanical wedding venue: tick, relaxed vibes and good times: tick and they are cat people: BIG tick! It was such a pleasure to join them for their Sefton Park Palm House wedding photos (plus their Leeds town Hall elopement, which may get it’s own little write up in due course…)

Pip and James’ big day is fantastic wedding inspiration not only because it looks good, it feels good too! I think these two are living proof that a wedding can be relaxed and informal, a whole lot of fun AND beautiful all at once! They chose  things that brought them joy, kept things relaxed and ditched the traditions that weren’t important to them. You CAN have it all – do things your way like James and Pip and have a ball on your wedding day!

It had been a few years since shooting Palm House Sefton Park wedding photographs and it was brilliant to be back at this iconic Liverpool wedding venue. The building itself is so timeless and striking and once you’re inside, the interior takes you away to holidays with all the exotic plants and beautiful greenery. I can almost smell the suncream!

As a wedding photographer, I’m always searching for good light and the Sefton Park Palm House never lets me down. The soft light that comes through the glass ceiling is simply epic and the plants are pretty much all the decor you need to make your wedding look stunning.

Speaking of decor, I was delighted to see that Pip and James opted for bold, tropical block colours for their Sefton Park Palm House wedding. The couple chose vibrant yellows, peach, pink and orange hues which contrasted perfectly with the greenery inside the Liverpool Palm House.

One of their clever bits of DIY decor was their bold and colourful ceremony background. This made a great backdrop for saying ‘I do’ and plot twist – it doubled up as a table plan for the wedding reception. Pip and James’ table names were named after their favourite places to eat (or get a takeaway) and as a wedding favour they gave each of their guests scratch cards. The pièce de résistance, however, was the cardboard cutout of their cats!

Pip and James wanted more of their party covered, so on the day we jumped straight in to photographing their ceremony. The personalised wedding ceremony was conducted by a close friend, since they had already done the legal bit at Leeds Town Hall a few days prior. It was amazing to see James and Pip’s enthusiasm and eagerness to say ‘I do’…   I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bride dance their way down the aisle before!

Having set the tone for informality and fun early doors, James and Pip’s guests enjoyed the drinks reception playing games and listening to the Jazz band play outside the Palm House. They then had a relaxed buffet for the wedding breakfast followed by untraditional speeches and lots of dancing. Rather than cutting the cake, they had a doughnut table for everyone to enjoy and a video speeches area set up for guests to record their messages.

The night ended with a fireworks display for the guests, which was kept as a surprise! My second shooter Kirstie and I were contorting into all sorts of shapes and crawling around on the floor to capture the fireworks… Not to blow our own trumpets, but I think we nailed it!

Congratulations to James & Pip and thank you for having me and Kirstie along to capture your day! Check out their wedding highlights film and Sefton Park Palm House wedding photographs here…
