Lake District Elopement Photographer

Being a Lake District elopement photographer is both exciting and rewarding. It feels special to be invited into a wedding ceremony where the focus is solely on the couple exchanging their vows. There’s something important about the intimacy of the occasion and also a real freedom to do away with convention. It’s all about what the couple want to do!

It’s such a privilege to document an elopement with colourful wedding photographs, so that my couples can look back on their wedding day and share the special moment with their family and friends. I’m going to share two Lake Windermere elopements with you below. But first, have a look at 5 reasons to have a Lake District Elopement…

5 reasons to have a Lake District Elopement

  1. Beautiful views: The number one reason to have a Lake District elopement is of course the spectacular scenery! The Lake District boasts some of the most dramatic rolling hills and calm lakeside views in England. This makes the Lakes the perfect setting for stunning wedding photographs of your elopement whatever the season.
  2. Privacy: The Lake District is the perfect place to get away from it all, and you’ll find lots of secluded spots for hosting your elopement. If you’re choosing an elopement, it’s likely that your priority is escaping the stress of a big wedding. The good news is that the Lake District has countless peaceful spots to offer for intimate legal ceremonies or celebrant led vows.
  3. Intimate wedding venues: From cosy B&Bs to luxury lodges, historic manors to registry offices, the Lake District offers a wealth of charming places to stay and get married. You’ll find the little pubs and restaurants so romantic!
  4. Freedom from logistics: If you just want to focus on each other, rather than planning a big wedding, a Lake District elopement offers that freedom. You can choose to get married in one of the many small legal venues, followed by a dinner just by yourselves. You can even be inventive and choose a non-legal celebrant-led ceremony outdoors.
  5. Adventure: If you’re an outdoorsy couple, you’re going to love all the activities you can do in the Lake District. If you like walking, paddle boarding, swimming or sailing, there are lots of places to go. Or you might like to just relax in the hot tub with a glass of fizz!

Alternative Elopement in the Lake District

Shona & Luke planned their alternative elopement in the Lake District around a trip to their favourite place: Lake Windermere. I was delighted that they chose me to capture these colourful wedding photographs for them in such a beautiful location.

Smaller weddings have remained a trend over the last few years and Shona & Luke chose an intimate wedding ceremony at a local town hall. There’s something really special about keeping things low key and heading to your local registry office with a few close family and friends.

Even better when you follow your wedding ceremony with a portrait shoot on Lake Windermere just the two of you, capturing precious time together as a freshly married couple…

Black Wedding Dress

I was mega excited when Shona told me she would be wearing a black wedding dress! I’ve been waiting a while for one of my brides to choose black and Shona looked stunning! I also loved her Irregular Choice ghost shoes. Just take a look at the wedding photographs below to see how amazing they are – boo!

I’m so here for couples ditching tradition and wearing what they like on their wedding day. Black went perfectly with Shona and Luke’s alternative style and contrasted so well with the gorgeous Lake District scenery.

Speak of which, how amazing is the location Shona & Luke chose for their wedding portraits? It was simply beautiful and I had such a blast shooting these two’s wedding photographs at Lake Windermere. I think my favourite images are the ones at the end near the shore, but it’s hard to choose!

“We had Cassandra as our wedding photographer last year! She is absolutely fabulous. She captured our day so well and really took our style into account, she captured all the tiny details that most people probably wouldn’t pick up on. So friendly and gives perfect directs for if you’re like me and have no idea what to do in a photo! Cassandra is truly fabulous and I recommend her to everyone!! I’ll treasure our photos forever,”

Thank you so much to Shona for the kind words. If you’d like to read more reviews from other happy wedding photography clients, please check out my testimonials page.

Shona & Luke’s portrait location was at Lake Windermere. We parked at Rayrigg Meadow car park, which is easy walking distance from the jetties. You can find it here: Rayrigg Meadow Car Park, Rayrigg Rd, Windermere, LA23 1BP.

The second Lake District wedding I want to share with you is Becky & Nick’s big day. This one wasn’t strictly a Lake District elopement, but was a small and intimate wedding that didn’t follow tradition or convention.

I returned to the jetties for Becky & Nick’s Lake Windermere wedding photographs and found lots of beautiful spots for relaxed and natural portraits of this happy couple.

Nick & Becky wanted to keep their wedding simple and fun for their guests who had travelled from around the world. They hired the magnificent Gothic mansion Fallbarrow Hall for the weekend and held a relaxed house party for their wedding.

The couple chose to forego the traditional elements of a wedding and instead had a short ceremony at the local registry office for their close family. This was followed by the reception at Fallbarrow Hall. No speeches, no first dance – just unplanned fun for the whole day!

Fallbarrow Hall dates back to the Victorian era and is an impressive mansion with 18 bedrooms for all your guests to stay. The venue is beautifully decorated throughout and boasts a large private garden with lakeside views. Fallbarrow Hall is located in the Fallbarrow Hall Holiday Park, within it’s own private grounds on the shore of Lake Windermere. You can find it at Rayrigg Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, Windermere, LA23 3DL.
