Unusual. Unprecedented. Extraordinary. 2020 absolutely wasn’t the year any of us were expecting… Or indeed hoping for!
I shot 6 weddings this year. The lowest number since I started my business 9 years ago! At one point, I feared I wouldn’t have enough images for a ‘Best Wedding Photos‘ at the end of the year…
But as I sit and reflect on 2020, I want to focus on the positives. Weddings bring SO MUCH JOY. And that emotion has not been squashed by the relatively small number I’ve had the pleasure of attending.
Wedding Photography
2020 has been the year of the micro-wedding. The majority of my couples have hosted intimate weddings with 15 guests or less. They have kept things really small, simple and personal to them.
One thing tied everything together… This year’s couples didn’t want to wait! “We just want to be married!” said most of them to me. When plans have had to change multiple times, wedding traditions have seemed less important. This year weddings were more spontaneous than ever!
Many of my couples defied the odds by getting married at all this year. It’s made me incredibly grateful for each big day I’ve been involved in. Each one has truly brought so much joy to me!
To my couples that have had to postpone into 2021… I can’t wait for your weddings to come around! Many of you had to change plans not once, but several times over the course of the year. From start to finish you’ve been total stars. I can’t thank you enough for your patience and kindness each time a curve ball was thrown your way.
Family Photography & Personal Branding Photography
Seeing as weddings were quiet this year, I kept myself busy doing doorstep portraits and more family photography. During the first lockdown, my doorstep shoot clients helped me raise over £140 for Doctors without Borders. It was great to meet so many new people. Many of my past wedding clients also returned to me for family photo shoots and it’s been lovely to see how their families have grown.
I also did a lot more work for small businesses this year, particularly personal branding shoots for That’s Her Business clients. I launched Back to Business headshot shoots which proved very popular and were great fun to do. I’ve not included my commercial work here, as I’m planning to launch it as a separate thing in the New Year (watch this space…)
Best Wedding Photos 2020
I may of had a smaller pool of images to pick my best wedding photos from this year… But I’ve had so much enjoyment going through and picking my favourites. You sometimes forget some cracking images you’ve taken, so it’s been a pleasure to re-visit them. I’ve also thrown in some of my doorstep photography and family photographs for good measure!
No matter the circumstances, I’m drawn to images of people laughing, having fun and sharing emotion with each other. Here’s to much more of that in 2021!
A massive thank you to everyone who has supported me this year. It’s been a tough one, but so many people have been so kind. Much love to you all, take care of yourselves and a very happy Christmas!
